Search & Rescue Use Case

Towers Are Down. The Phones Are Not.

Polus units carry their own cellular coverage into the affected area. Any powered handset inside it can be localized to a 3-D fix, down to which floor.

A flooded town at night with a helicopter carrying a Polus sensor over it, reading the phones in the water and in a damaged building, where one is fixed to a single floor.
  1. 01: Coverage Arrives With the Team

The sensor brings its own cellular coverage into an area where the network is down.

  2. 02: Every Handset Answers

Any powered phone inside that coverage makes itself known, with no action from its owner.

  3. 03: Floor-Level Fix

Each position resolves to a 3-D fix - rooftop, upper floor, or ground level.

When the network fails, every location service built on top of it fails with it. Calls do not connect, handsets report nothing, and the operational map goes dark at the moment it matters most. Teams fall back to grids and boats, working square by square while the water keeps rising.

The Engagement Cycle

Covering the Area

  1. 01Deploy

A portable, vehicle, or boat-mounted unit is placed at the edge of the affected area. Nothing needs restoring first.

  2. 02Cover

The sensor provides local cellular coverage across the search area, independent of the damaged network.

  3. 03Extend

A UAV carries the same coverage ahead of the teams, over water and debris they have not reached yet.

  4. 04Broadcast

An emergency SMS can be broadcast to every handset inside the coverage area, so people who can respond know help is there and where to go.

Finding the People

  1. 01Detect

Every powered handset inside the coverage area registers and becomes visible to the team.

  2. 02Localize

A meter-class 3-D fix for each one, from a single sensor. No second team, no working towers.

  3. 03Guide

Crews work from a live list of exact positions instead of a search grid, updated as people move.

When Minutes Decide

  • Works On Arrival

There is no infrastructure to repair, power, or reconnect. The sensor is operational the moment it is in place.

  • Nothing Asked of the Missing

People do not need to call, answer, or know the system is there. A powered handset is enough.

  • Night, Smoke, or Storm

Effective across the full environmental envelope. Radio is unaffected by darkness, cloud, smoke, or weather. Coverage at 3am is the same as coverage at noon.
